Hello ______________,

The text comes from 1 Peter 2:5-10:

1Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

1Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

1Peter 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

1Peter 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

1Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

1Peter 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

The claim will be that EVERYONE now is a priest, because of the wording. But please notice Exodus 19:5-6:

Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

Exodus 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom

[i.e. royal] of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Notice the similarities in the verses?

The problem with what most people say is that the NT gives ability for everyone to be priests, wherein the OT gives us a clear cut example of the entire nation being a ‘kingdom of priests’, but ONLY the Levites were called to serve as the actual priests in the temple, and still ONLY the SONS of Aaron that were Levites were able to serve… So… where’s the disconnect in the NT?

What our scholars today are doing is a major disservice to the Bible and the truth it upholds.

Here is a group panel discussion on the subject. You might do well to listen to it as well—(I don’t remember everything that was spoken of, and many times a discussion will go on talking about all sorts of things, but I believe it will be good.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NxVW1qA8Gw

Thanks for asking.
